Dr. Luis Bermudez is the Executive Director for Innovation at the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). The OGC is the world leading standards consortium advancing geospatial technologies to make it easier sharing of location data. The Innovation Program, provides a collaborative agile process bringing together geospatial technology users for advancing new technologies and standards. Under the Compliance Program, Dr. Bermudez leads the development of open source web validation tools that have supported hundreds of implementations to comply with OGC standards.
Dr. Bermudez has a Ph.D. and M.S. in Environmental Informatics from Drexel University. He has more than 20 years of experience in the information and technology industry including geospatial, sensor web, semantic web, data analytics and legal information. Dr. Bermudez is also an adjunct faculty member in the Master of Professional Studies in Geographic Information Systems program at the University of Maryland, where he teaches topics on GIS, databases, NoSQL, cloud computing and cartographic modeling.
Prior to joining the OGC in 2010, he was the Technical Manager for the SURA Coastal Ocean Observing and Prediction Program and Technical Lead at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI). In both positions, he advanced solutions implemented world-wide to support management and sharing of ocean observing systems. In Colombia (1996-1999), he developed CRM and legal information systems, and provided consulting on strategic planning and technology implementation for Latin America companies.
His hobby is learning about personal growth and motivate people about how to become great on what they do and achieve their dreams.
